Outdoor Education

Based on the belief that a deep understanding of one’s own country is essential to be a leader in the international age, Kaiyo Academy conducts many extracurricular activities to achieve that aim.

First Year

First year students go on walks around Gamagori City, where Kaiyo Academy is located, in order to deepen their understanding of the community they will live in for the next six years.

Third Year

As part of the Ise trip conducted in the third year, students visit the Ise-jingu Grand Shrine, staying for two days and one night to take part in the Tsukinami-no-Matsuri festival*. This offers students the opportunity to understand the nature of faith from the time of ancient Japan and to reflect upon their own sense of values.

* Tsukinami-no-Matsuri festival: Shinto ritual that has been conducted on the 11th day of June and December every year since ancient times by Shinto priests. It prays for the well-being of the Emperor and the nation, and offerings made of paper or cloth called ‘heihaku’ are presented to the enshrined deity.

Fourth Year

All fourth year students climb Mt. Fuji. On the first day of the trial, we stay at a facility on the eighth station of Mt. Fuji, and those fit to go on will aim for the summit on the second day. While we have to set out early in the morning, it is worth it as the sunrise viewed from the top of the mountain is something that will stay alive in the students' memories for their entire lives.
