Academic & Art Education Facilities

School Library

Kaiyo Academy’s School Library has over 59,000 publications featuring literary works in the field of humanities, social studies, and natural sciences, together with academic journals. These also include sports and hobby-based magazines. In addition, the library also stocks many DVDs, so students can retire on the sofa in the movie-watching area at lunchtime or after classes to watch the latest movies, documentaries or other videos covering a wide range of subjects. There is also a study area, which is very busy with students during exam times that it is difficult to find an empty seat. This spacious and comfortable library provides a special place for students to freely daydream, contemplate serious issues, or even go on an intellectual journey.

Audio-visual Auditorium

Our Audio-Visual Auditorium is equipped with a giant screen and projector, so students can enjoy high-quality video and audio content. It also has a stage where a variety of presentations are given, and the House Masters and graduates regularly hold "society" sessions on weekday evenings after supper and on weekends, providing intellectual stimulation for the students. Images taken by the electronically-controlled large-scale astronomical telescope installed on the roof can also be projected onto the giant screen in real time.

Astronomical Telescope

A 40 cm-wide electronically-controlled astronomical telescope is installed on the roof of the school building. Away from built-up areas and major roads, Kaiyo Academy stands on a vast site where the sky is clear, making it a perfect place for observing the starry heavens. On weekend evenings after supper, when the stars can be seen most clearly, an astronomy class is held on the roof where students can cast their thoughts into outer space and scan the sky for shooting stars.

Scientific Laboratories

One of Kaiyo Academy’s great sources of pride is its seven science laboratories. They are fully equipped with advanced scientific laboratory equipment and projectors. Through physics, chemistry, biology, and geology experiments, students can see natural phenomena with their own eyes and touch them with their own hands, deepening their understanding by mobilizing the five senses.

Music & Art & Calligraphy Rooms

In the Music Room with its two grand pianos and stage, students will come to know the pleasure of music by actually singing and playing instruments. In the Art Room, students learn sketching, watercolour painting, and oil painting techniques, and strive to create fully-fledged works of art. In the Calligraphy Room, students will soak their brushes in sumi ink and with all their concentration write characters on Japanese writing paper. Here students keep the Japanese tradition of calligraphy alive and carry it into the future.
