Message from a House Master

Life in the House sits at the root of all experiences in Kaiyo. We House Masters do everything we can to support and advise the students so that their six years here will be their most stimulating and productive. Our reward is not money, but rather seeing the students grow. When students leave the House, it is always a great source of pride to see how much the students, our ‘creations’ if you like, have progressed both academically and personally.

A House Master is a veteran teacher with a wealth of experience in many matters. They reside with the students in the House (dormitory) and provide fatherly support to the students on a wide range of matters ranging from everyday life to plotting their post-graduation paths, and school studies.

Message from a Floor Master

Sometimes as a kind of big brother and sometimes as a working adult dispatched by a corporation, we impart our experiences and points of view to the students to stimulate their sense of values. As well as living at close quarters with the students to provide lifestyle and health guidance, we keep a close eye on any subtle changes in each and every student in our daily discourse with them and offer emotional support. At Kaiyo Academy, the House is pivotal to “Holistic Personal Development”. I hope that House life will help to cultivate the students’ personal and leadership qualities and, as a Floor Master, I would like to give the students my full encouragement and support.

About 20 students live on each floor of a House. A “Floor Master” is dispatched by some of Japan’s most influential and prestigious companies to live side-by-side with the students and to mentor them on all aspects of everyday life. Floor Masters closely observe each and every student to ensure that nothing is amiss, and they enrich communication in the House by raising topics on everyday behavior and activities. Floor Masters also do everything they can to advise students on studying methods, preparation for exams, everyday school life, and club activities.
